Looking for the Jujutsu Kaisen books in order? Gege Akutami’s supernatural blockbuster finished its manga run in 2024 with 30 volumes, but the anime is still going strong — Season 3 aired in early 2026 and Season 4 is on the way. This 2026 guide gives you the complete reading order: all 30 volumes, the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 prequel, the Modulo spin-off, and the box sets actually worth your money.
Jujutsu Kaisen Books in Order: The Full List
The core series is a straight line: read volumes 1 through 30 in publication order. The story breaks naturally into major arcs along the way:
- Volumes 1–5: The introduction — Yuji Itadori eats one of Sukuna’s fingers, joins Tokyo Jujutsu High, and the cast takes shape through the Fearsome Womb, Cursed Training, and Vs. Mahito arcs.
- Volumes 6–9: The Kyoto Goodwill Event tournament arc, the Death Painting arc, and the Gojo’s Past flashback arc that reshapes everything you know about Satoru Gojo.
- Volumes 10–16: The Shibuya Incident, the series’ massive midpoint — widely considered one of the best arcs in modern shonen.
- Volumes 17–18: Itadori Extermination and Perfect Preparation, setting the board for the endgame.
- Volumes 19–27: The Culling Game, the longest arc in the series, packed with battles and plot twists.
- Volumes 28–30: The Shinjuku Showdown and the finale — the end of the fight against Sukuna and the conclusion Akutami built toward.
After the main 30 volumes, the extras are simple: the single-volume prequel Jujutsu Kaisen 0 and the short spin-off Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo (three volumes). More on both below.
How Many Jujutsu Kaisen Volumes Are There?
There are 30 volumes of the main manga. The series was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from March 2018 until September 30, 2024, and the final two volumes — 29 and 30 — released together in Japan on December 25, 2024.
English readers caught up later: VIZ Media handled the English release, and the English edition of Volume 30 arrived on May 12, 2026. Including the novels, digital editions, and Jujutsu Kaisen 0, the franchise has surpassed 100 million copies in circulation, making it one of the best-selling manga series of all time.
And if you’re waiting for the perfect moment to buy the whole thing, it’s almost here: VIZ Media has confirmed a complete box set releasing October 27, 2026, containing all 30 translated volumes, the prequel volume, and a double-sided poster. It’s already up for pre-order on Amazon.
Jujutsu Kaisen 0: Read It Before or After?
Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is a single-volume prequel starring Yuta Okkotsu, released in December 2018. Akutami originally serialized it as Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School in Jump Giga from April to July 2017, before it was folded into the Jujutsu Kaisen brand.
The honest answer on placement: either works. Reading it before the main series introduces you to Yuta — who becomes crucial later — with zero spoilers for the main plot. Reading it after volume 8 or 9, when Yuta starts getting name-dropped, gives his introduction more weight. If you’re a first-timer, reading it first is the simplest path. If you’ve already started the main series, slot it in whenever you’re curious. The MAPPA movie adaptation (2021) is a faithful version of the same story.
What About Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo?
After the main series ended, Akutami launched a short sequel manga, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, in Weekly Shonen Jump starting September 8, 2025. It ran 25 chapters and wrapped with its third and final volume in Japan on May 1, 2026.
Modulo is set almost 70 years after the original series and follows Tsurugi and Yuka Okkotsu — the grandchildren of Yuta Okkotsu and Maki Zen’in — as they deal with an alien race called the Simurians who also wield jujutsu sorcery. MAPPA even produced an animated trailer for the final volume.
Should you read it? It’s a fun coda, but not required reading for the main story. VIZ Media is handling the English release, though English volumes aren’t on sale yet — check back if you want the complete saga.
Where the Anime Fits in the Reading Order
The MAPPA anime is still mid-run, and it’s the reason many readers are picking up the manga at all:
- Season 1 (October 2020 – March 2021): adapts the early volumes.
- Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie (2021): the prequel.
- Season 2 (July – December 2023): Gojo’s Past and the Shibuya Incident.
- Season 3: Culling Game Part 1 (January – March 2026): the start of the longest arc, simulcast globally by Crunchyroll and arriving on Netflix worldwide on July 22, 2026.
- Season 4: Culling Game Part 2: confirmed and in production.
If you’re caught up on Season 3 and want to read ahead, jump in around volumes 17–18 where the Culling Game arc begins. And if you want the manga’s ending now instead of waiting years for the anime to finish it — all 30 volumes are available, which is exactly what this reading order is for.
The Bottom Line
The Jujutsu Kaisen books in order are: Volumes 1–30, with Jujutsu Kaisen 0 read before or early in the run, and Modulo as an optional epilogue. With the manga complete and a full box set landing October 2026, there’s never been a better time to binge the whole thing before the anime reaches the finale.
